Wandering around Cappadocia, you may find yourself in an utopic land. The structures that shapes variously reminds you of big sand castles. Only difference is the absence of the waves that would absorb them. There are two ways to see this visual feast that lies between the valleys: Balloon tour and Uçhisar Castle.
Uçhisar Castle consists of two neighbouring Fairy Chimnies named The Castle of the Master (Ağanın Kalesi) and The Castle of the Sergeant (Çavuşun Kalesi). When you climb to the top of the castle, which is over 50 meters from the south and 100 meters from the north, all of Cappadocia appears right before your eyes. You will find yourself watching all Cappadocia in silence, from Ürgüp to Göreme, from Avanos to Güvercinlik Valley while feeling the soft breeze on your face. At sunset and sunrise, you can feel the wisdom-like touches of ancient times in the enchanting atmosphere of light, crowning the mysterious silence of the valley.
Uçhisar Castle, the only place where Erciyes and Hasan Mountains can be seen at the same time, is located only 5 minutes away from Nevşehir. Uçhisar Castle, which is the highest place in Cappadocia, contains many buildings such as houses, tombs, shelters and churches carved in since the Roman times.
After discovering Uçhisar Castle, the markets will welcome you with various souvenirs. You can cast an eye on the local jewelries, pottery and handcrafted products, and get the mood of architectural structures throughout the narrow streets. If you are tired, you can taste the local waffles while sipping your coffee with delight, experiencing being present on the Silk Road of the past.
If you want to see Cappadocia from above without flying (in a baloon), do not leave before you visit Uçhisar Castle.
